First Thursday Art Walk at 619 Western
A few of my photographs are being shown at the OK Gallery this Thursday, February 5th, 2009 in the 619 building on the forth floor. I am part of OK Hotel's first group show in this gallery. The building is open from 6pm-9pm and is located at 619 Western Ave, Seattle, WA.
Here is what I gleaned from the website on the building's history:
"Built in 1910 during the economic boom after the Alaskan Goldrush the building most likely designed by Saunders and Lawton was used as a multi-purpose warehouse and the site of light manufacturing. Everything from stored fishingnets, coffebeans and tavern punchcards made their way through it's floors. What took place in the building from 1910 to the early '70's is under investigation. " The building is currently occupied with artist studios, who have been here since 1979.

What I love about 619 versus the fancier galleries, which mostly lie East of the viaduct, is that the artists here are emerging and just becoming established. 619 holds no airs. All are welcome, no matter what you are wearing or how much (or little) your pocketbook holds. You will stumble upon some incredible creations here. First Thursday at 619 is exploding with vibrancy, character and curiosities. 619 always has a great turnout of devoted fans and you are guaranteed to see something interesting, in the art and the patrons.
I am really proud and excited to be a part of 619 this month.
